The Best Dog-Friendly Spots in Vancouver for Your CuddleBridge Day

Stanley Park, Jericho Beach, Gastown patios — here's exactly where to take your borrowed dog for the perfect Vancouver outing.

Vancouver is one of the most dog-friendly cities in North America. More importantly, it's one of the most *beautiful* cities in North America. If you're spending a day with a borrowed dog from CuddleBridge, you're in the right place.

Here's our guide to the best spots across the city — organized by what kind of day you want to have.

For the Big Adventure Day

Stanley Park is the obvious choice, and it's obvious for good reason. The seawall offers 10km of gorgeous waterfront walking, leash required. The park's interior trails add another layer if your dog has energy to burn. The off-leash area near the second beach is excellent for social, dog-friendly dogs. Allow at least 3 hours if you want to do it properly.

Cypress Mountain trails (lower sections, season-dependent) are spectacular for active dogs. The hike to the viewpoint near the base of the main trails is manageable in under two hours and rewards you with views that make you remember why you live here.

Buntzen Lake in Anmore is a 45-minute drive but worth it for a full-day outing. Dogs are welcome on the main trail, the water is clean, and many dogs will wade in without prompting. Bring dry towels.

For the Neighbourhood Wander

Kitsilano is the ideal neighbourhood walk. The tree-lined streets, the proximity to Kits Beach, the coffee shops with outdoor seating — it's hard to have a bad time walking a dog through Kits. The beach itself is leash-required but stunning; the off-leash area at Hadden Park is small but useful.

Commercial Drive ("The Drive") is reliably fun — the street culture is dog-friendly, multiple cafés and restaurants have outdoor seating, and the mix of people means your borrowed dog will get a lot of attention. Afternoon is ideal.

Gastown for evening or weekend borrows. The cobblestone streets are photogenic, the patios are accommodating, and Maple Tree Square is a natural pause point. Quieter on weekend mornings.

For the Chill Park Day

Queen Elizabeth Park is underrated. The Japanese gardens, the Rose Garden, the views south toward Mount Baker — it's not as high-energy as Stanley Park but it's beautiful and usually less crowded. Great for calmer dogs.

Trout Lake (John Hendry Park) in East Van is a favourite local spot. The off-leash area is well-established, the lake itself is scenic, and it's always full of other dogs on weekends. One of the best spots in the city for social dogs.

Jericho Beach is perfect for morning borrows. Arrive early, walk the beach, watch the windsurfers, let your dog investigate the shoreline. The off-leash area at Jericho is spacious. The adjacent hostel café does decent coffee.

Dog-Friendly Cafés and Patios

Vancouver's patio culture is dog-friendly as a rule, but a few spots stand out.

Café Deux Soleils on Commercial Drive has excellent outdoor seating and a deeply dog-tolerant culture. Matchstick Coffee (multiple locations) has outdoor areas and staff who genuinely love dogs stopping by. The Naam on 4th has been allowing dogs at outdoor tables for years.

For post-outing treats (for the dog), Petco on Broadway is obvious, but the better move is stopping at any local pet shop — there are several along 4th Avenue — and getting your borrowed dog something from the treat bar. They've earned it.

Practical Notes

All borrowed dogs come with a care guide that specifies their swimming ability, off-leash clearance, and any specific environmental sensitivities. Read it before you plan your day.

The seawall, most beaches, and city parks require dogs to be on-leash except in designated off-leash zones. We always include a list of nearby off-leash areas in your care guide.

CuddleBridge dogs are shelter dogs — most are not used to heavy traffic or very crowded urban environments. A quieter weekend morning will usually be a better experience than a busy Saturday afternoon in the middle of Granville Island.

That said: Granville Island on a quiet morning is extraordinary.
